Easy Chocolate Cake

For chocolate lovers, this moist and rich cake is a must-try!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 cup 225g unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar adjust for sweetness
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Cake Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together dry ingredients.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat with a stand mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
  • Pour into pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Let cool before frosting with chocolate buttercream.

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

  • Beat the softened butter in a large bowl until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Sift in the cocoa powder to prevent lumps, then gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Add the vanilla extract and salt, and mix to combine.
  • Slowly add the milk (or heavy cream), one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
  • Beat the frosting on high for 2-3 minutes until it’s light, fluffy, and smooth.
